Posted by admin June - 23 - 2009 - Tuesday 2 COMMENTS

The Scarpa Manta GSB climbing boot is a fantastic boot for use on multi terrains. The boot is suited to hill walking, mountain climbing, hiking and also for glacier walking.

This new updated version of the boot which has been the top 4 season walking boot in the last few seasons is now 10% lighter due to the new sole unit.

Scarpa Manta GSB Jorasses Sole Unit

The Jorasses GSB sole is a unique development from one of the top sole manufacturers – Vibram. A dual compound sticky rubber is used and the sole has a softer rubber at the front of the foot. The overall make up of the rest of the sole is manufactured in a unique way to create a great 4 season boot. The boot is lightweight due to this unique sole and has great shock absorption qualities.

The shoe also excels when you require the use of crampons as the sole is uniquely molded to accommodate the use of step in crampons. The system is much faster than others we have seen in getting the crampons on and off and is also much safer due to the GSB Manta boot having no protrusions to catch onto debris.

Scarpa DL Last

The “last” is the foot shaped model that the boot has been crafted around. This is what will give a boot its characteristics. Scarpa develop lasts specifically for the use of each boot. The Manta GSB boot uses what is called the DL Last. It is stated by Scarpa that this last has been “tested and proven in many of Scarpa’s best selling alpine models, this last provides a higher volume and broader fit, with exceptional all day mountain comfort, regardless of the activity.”

Brasher Hillmaster GTX Walking Boots

Posted by admin April - 24 - 2008 - Thursday 1 COMMENT

Britains top hiking bootThe Brasher Hillmaster GTX Walking boot is one of Britains top selling and most popular walking boots around today. Here we give an overview and review of what the Brasher GTX is all about.

The boot is a very comfortable boot that is both hard wearing and also surprisingly lightweight. The upper leather fabric of the Brasher Hillmaster GTX is breathable and also waterproof which means the boot can be used in all seasons. The hillmaster also has a breathable Gore-Tex membrane. Due to all these features your feet will not sweat or feel uncomfortable in hotter conditions and the temperature will be regulated through the breathable boot.

Review of the Brasher Hillmaster

The great thing you will find about the Brasher Hiilmaster GTX hiking boots is that they are very comfy straight out of the box. Normally with some other walking boots you need a period of adjustment where your feet gets torn to shreds but you won’t experience this with the hillmaster boots.

One thing we found about the Hill master boots is that the sole is quite soft and wears down fairly easily. When going over some rockier terrains you can feel the stones through the soles. Even though the soles are on the soft side you do actually get a fantastic grip with the Brasher GTX boots. You find that many campers have had their Brasher Hillmaster walking boots for many years and get them resoled as they love them so much.

The leather uppers of the boot are very good and the boots have ankle padding which reduces injuries whilst walking.

The Hillmaster GTX’s can be one of the lightest boots used for hiking, this is great news for anyone going on long treks spanning days.

Summary of the Brasher Hillmaster Boots

The Brasher GTX boots are very comfortable, hard wearing and supportive. We found the main downside to be the durability of the soles which where a bit on the soft side. Apart from that the Brasher Hillmaster GTX Walking Boot is a great boot for hiking or taking on general camping trips.
