Thermarest Self Inflating Mattress

The air mattress is made from 2 sheets of polyurethane coated polyester cloth. These 2 sheets are sealed together at the edges and within them is a filling of polyurethane foam.

How does the Thermarest Mattress Work?

The sponge that’s used to fill the Thermarest mattress is the type of sponge that wants to attain its full dimensions.

The mattress is shipped with all the air squeezed out of it as the sponge is flattened out when rolled into a compact cylinder. When the valve of the mattress is opened air is sucked in through the valve and the urethane foam trys to regain its original form. Once this stage has been reached you can then either close off the valve or if you wish for a sturdier mattress you can blow up the mattress further manually.

When the Thermarest mat needs to be packed away you then just pop open the valve and squeeze the air back out. The great thing about the Thermarest pads is that it is a very simple quick process and the space and weight is great for backpacking with.
